LOS ALAMOS, N.M., February 20, 2003 — Los Alamos National Laboratory Associate Director for Administration Richard A. Marquez today announced the appointment of Patrick D. Woehrle as the Laboratory's Government Relations Office Director. Most recently, Woehrle served as the Legislative Director for Congressman Gene Green (D-TX) where his responsibilities included managing key policy issues for the Energy and Air Quality and the Telecommunications and Internet subcommittees of the House Energy and Commerce Committee. He also served as the Congressman's liaison with the Department of Energy and Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, among other agencies. "Patrick's selection completes the management structure of the Communications and External Relations Division and will allow us to focus our efforts on effective internal and external communications during this critical time for the Laboratory," Marquez said. "Patrick has a strong background in the legislative process and has developed successful working relationships at both the state and federal level." Woehrle holds a bachelor's degree in political science and international affairs from George Washington University and a master's degree in government from Johns Hopkins University. Prior to joining Congressman Green's staff in March 2000 he served for five years as Senior Legislative Assistant to Congressman Ken Bentsen, Jr. (D-TX). Woehrle is expected to begin his new duties in mid-March.
