The National Academy committee wishes to hear from anyone with input on how best to preserve and promote science at Los Alamos thorough the RFP process. "Our charge from the NNSA is to develop a set of criteria for evaluating the capabilities of bidders for the LANL management contract to ensure the continuation of world-class science and technology at the Lab," said Richard Rowberg, Associate Executive Director of the National Academies' Division on Engineering and Physical Sciences. "The speakers should give their views to the study committee about the important characteristics in a LANL contract manager for making the Lab's working environment conducive to conducting high-quality science and engineering. Suggestions are also welcome about how these characteristics can be turned into evaluation criteria and how they might be measured for a given bidder."
The public meeting will take place on Tuesday, March 2, 2004 at Fuller Lodge in downtown Los Alamos, from 3:30 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. Members of the public wishing to attend the meeting and provide comment to the National Academies study committee should pre-register with the Laboratory's Community Relations Office by calling 665-4400 locally or (888) 841-8256 toll-free. Members of the public will be given three minutes each for comment, and will be pre-registered on a first come, first served basis. Time permitting, people wishing to speak may also be able to sign up at the door at the public session. Those wishing to provide comment will also be asked to present a written synopsis of their comments for the record.
