LOS ALAMOS, N.M., October 27, 1998 — Los Alamos National Laboratory's Bradbury Science Museum is joining other downtown businesses to celebrate Halloween on Friday.

The museum's "Halloween Carnival" is part of "Trick or Treat on MainStreet" sponsored by Los Alamos County and local businesses, said Pat Berger of the museum, which is part of the Los Alamos' Community Relations Office.

The Halloween Carnival is from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday and is designed for children ages 4 through 10. It will give a science twist to some of the activities, including a ring toss, bottle pulls, "dancing rice krispies" and a tattoo parlor, said Berger. There also will be prizes.

On Thursday, museum staff will conduct a raffle to select four winners of a Halloween T-shirt designed by Omar Juveland, an exhibits designer at the museum. Raffle tickets were previously distributed through schools and businesses in Los Alamos and Española.

There is no admission to the Halloween Carnival. The museum will stay open to the public until 7 p.m. for Friday's special Halloween Carnival, said Berger.

"Come in your scariest, silliest or prettiest costume and enjoy a fun evening of activities at the museum," said Berger. "And be sure to participate in some of the other Halloween activities in the community that evening and on Saturday."

In conjunction with Halloween activities at the museum, local businesses are offering treats and activities from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday. On Saturday, Halloween Day, many businesses will continue the activities during normal business hours, said Berger. More than 50 downtown businesses are scheduled to take part in "Trick or Treat on MainStreet," she said.

The main street area includes businesses from the Mari-Mac Shopping Center on Trinity Drive and Central Avenue west to Los Alamos Medical Center at Trinity and Diamond drives.

Bradbury Science Museum is located at 15th Street and Central Avenue. Museum hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday and Friday and 1 to 5 p.m., Saturday, Sunday and Monday. There is no admission charge to the museum.
