LOS ALAMOS, N.M., May 27, 1998 — Los Alamos National Laboratory is set to open an outreach center in Santa Fe, bringing to four the number of centers it has established in local communities.

The Laboratory's Santa Fe outreach center opens June 1 at 1640 Old Pecos Trail. It joins previously established centers in Española, Taos and Los Alamos.

The outreach centers are a resource for members of the public to use in acquiring information about the Laboratory, learning about possible business opportunities and making inquiries for technical and other assistance.

Chuck Pacheco of the Community Involvement and Outreach Office will primarily staff the Santa Fe outreach center. The center will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.

"The Santa Fe outreach center will allow us to deal more effectively with a broad cross section of people and organizations in Santa Fe," Pacheco said. "Elected officials and community leaders generally have requested that we establish a center. This new center also is a concrete example of our commitment to integrate the Lab into the community."

"We're delighted that we finally have a Laboratory outreach office in the community of Santa Fe," said CIO Director Leroy Apodaca. "This office will help us improve the dialogue between the community and the Lab and will allow us to jointly identify issues and concerns on which we can partner."

The Laboratory's other outreach centers are at 1002 N. Oñate St. in the Joseph Montoya Building at Northern New Mexico Community College in Española; in downtown Los Alamos on Central Avenue next to the Bradbury Science Museum; and at 1033 Paseo del Pueblo Sur, Suite C in Martinez Plaza in Taos.
