LOS ALAMOS, N.M., March 16, 2001 — David J. Post has been appointed director of the Project Management Division at the Department of Energy's Los Alamos National Laboratory. Post has been acting division director for project management for the past six months.

"Project management and construction project management are focus areas of the recently modified management contract between the University of California and DOE," Lab Director John Browne said. "I have every confidence that Dave will lead the Laboratory's success in these areas. We are proud that the construction of the new Strategic Computing Complex, which Dave's organization manages, is currently ahead of schedule and under budget."

In announcing the appointment, Deputy Laboratory Director for Operations Richard Burick said, "Dave brings to this position an impressive record of accomplishment in project management including nuclear facilities operations. He has also demonstrated that he works well with other division directors, and he always has his corporate hat on."

A professional engineer with more than 26 years experience in chemical process industries and nuclear facilities operations, Post has developed and implemented facility management programs for multiple nuclear facilities. He is a former deputy division director for facilities management for the Laboratory's Nuclear Materials Technology Division. For more than a decade, he helped sustain nuclear facility operations at Los Alamos, keeping pace with ever increasing nuclear safety requirements and regulatory oversight.

A graduate of New Mexico State University with a degree in Chemical Engineering and of National Technological University with an advanced degree in Engineering Management, Post joined the Laboratory as a technical staff member in Plutonium Recovery Operations in 1979. He left the Laboratory briefly in the early 1980s to work as a plant manager for Texas United Chemical Corporation, and returned to Los Alamos in 1983.

He has held positions at the Laboratory including Facility Section Leader for Plutonium Facility Management, Deputy Program Director for the Special Nuclear Materials Laboratory Project, and Program Manager for Environmental Management Facilities.

As Acting PM Division Director, Post has been responsible for Labwide project management support services including the development, planning and execution of construction and infrastructure projects such as the new Strategic Computing Complex. The project is under budget and ahead of schedule.

Post will also be responsible for supporting the Laboratory with site-wide planning and other project management related tools such as training, implementation requirements and procedures and project management business systems.
