Target Training Populations

L-AGC logo The Laborers-AGC will target skilled Construction Craft Laborers, supervisors, contractor personnel, and union representatives engaged in hazardous waste clean up. Under the DOE HWWTP, Laborers-AGC will target skilled Construction Craft Laborers, supervisors, DOE managers, scientists, engineers, and other workers at DOE sites who are required to have Hazardous Waste, Radiological, and related safety and health training.

Program Description

The Laborers-AGC Education and Training Fund HWWT program trains workers who are employed or have the potential to work at hazardous waste sites or who are at risk of exposure to hazardous waste on the job. The program includes hazardous waste worker training that meets Occupational Safety and Health Administration requirements as well as other health and safety and skills training needed to conduct environmental remediation jobs safely. Training incorporates hands-on simulated exercises, classroom instruction, and advanced training technologies. By participating in the training, workers will learn to work safely in highly hazardous environments. Laborers-AGC will provide training that meets job and regulatory requirements and helps protect worker health and safety during the entire remediation or emergency response job.

Laborers-AGC HDPTP trains Construction Craft Laborers who may be called upon to provide skilled support services on disaster sites. The training program is capable of satisfying the specific needs of construction and environmental workers with various levels of training and/or experience. By attending this training, Construction Craft Laborers will acquire the skills and knowledge necessary to work as safely as possible as Skilled Support Personnel (SSP) if they are ever called upon to respond to an emergency or disaster situation. Specialized training will be provided if agent specific disaster response is requested.

The Laborers-AGC Education and Training Fund DOE program trains workers who are, or have the potential to be, employed on demolition, decommission, and decontamination projects at the DOE nuclear weapons facilities. Training is provided primarily to Laborers but also includes members of other building trades (operating engineers, masons, electrician, etc.) when appropriate or necessary. Participating workers will learn the necessary skills to work safely in hazardous environments present on DOE remediation projects and during potential emergency situations at DOE. Laborers-AGC will provide training that meets job requirements, federal and agency regulations, and helps protect the health and safety of the worker during all aspects of the job.
