Laboratory of Biochemistry (LB)

Boon Chock, PhD, Principal Investigator

This laboratory's research program includes: 1) studies on the role of oxygen free radical mediated oxidation of enzymes in aging and various diseases (especially those involved in pulmonary dysfunction and atherosclerosis); 2) detailed characterization of several bacterial selenoproteins, the mechanism of biosynthesis of biosynthesis of selenophosphate and 2-selenouridine including EPR studies; 3) studies on the regulation of protein ubiquitinating proteins, formation and utilization of free radicals, and cytosolic calcium oscillation; 4) biochemical studies of the HIV-1 protease, which is essential for virus replication.
