Deanne,
I am not sure what state you are in, but you can check the National EDP web site at www.nedp.org
If you are in a state that already has EDP, I could find the contact person for you.
Good luck!

Thanks for your quick response. How do I access and implement this program? Do I need to subscribe? This is very new to me and any help you can give would be appreciated.
Thank you,
Deanne

External Diploma Program is not an online course. It has come to be a terrific option for students who are non-native speakers of English because there are no timed tests. The ESL students who have achieved the highest level in ESL can go to ABE for help and prepare for EDP. Right now I am working with a Columbian woman, a young Polish man and a Moroccan gentleman. This program suits them since their work ethic is very strong and they are highly motivated. They come in once a week to present the work they have done at home and answer questions about their work when they meet with their assessor. No timed testing is involved and they get the opportunity to re-test or re-do items. It has worked very well for this group.

I am interested in your program for ESOL students. Is this an online course? I would appreciate any information you can provide.
Thank you,

All of our sites offer GED prep, many offer adult credit diploma
programs and some offer the EDP, in addition. The more mature student
with life experience is the perfect candidate for EDP, although, we
certainly get younger students (18-21) in EDP, as well. By CT state
law, we must service all those over 16 years of age in our adult ed
programs. We discourage the youngest ones from doing EDP because of the
lack of life experience.  Some of them, though, do have life experience;
like the young mothers or the young people who have always been "on
their own".
The program takes 6-12 months to complete. Some highly motivated people
with higher level skills can do it in less than 6 months.
There is definitely a population of adults without a high school diploma
who would benefit from this program. I always say, if you do not have
EDP, there are people that you are not serving. They are not even
coming to your door because they know about GED and traditional high
school credit programs.

Do your sites offer traditional high school diploma, GED preparation,
and
the external diploma program?
What sorts of students choose the EDP? How long does it usually take
them
to complete it?
