The more mature student with life experience is the perfect candidate for EDP, although, we certainly get younger students (18-21) in EDP, as well. By CT state law, we must service all those over 16 years of age in our adult ed programs. We discourage the youngest ones from doing EDP because of the lack of life experience. Some of them, though, do have life experience; like the young mothers or the young people who have always been "on their own". The program takes 6-12 months to complete. Some highly motivated people with higher level skills can do it in less than 6 months. There is definitely a population of adults without a high school diploma who would benefit from this program. I always say, if you do not have EDP, there are people that you are not serving. They are not even coming to your door because they know about GED and traditional high school credit programs.
