Success Stories for Maryland

SMECO: Uncompromised Safety: Southern Maryland Electric Co-op, (SMECO) (MD-004), Hughesville, Maryland, earned the Rural Electric Safety Accreditation Program Certificate of Excellence for Safety for the tenth consecutive time-and its score has been higher each time.

SMECO achieved an overall score of 99 percent from the accreditation program, which includes a peer review process, an audit program and on-site inspection of SMECO's system by a team of trained observers.

This involves a lot of work on the part of everyone," said Jim Grow, SMECO's job training and safety manager. "We never would have completed the accreditation with such a high score without everyone's support, and it begins at the top. Our CEO tells his people there is nothing more important than safety."
