Review of the Designated Approving Authority at NASA

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

The Office of Inspector General (OIG) completed a review of NASA's implementation of national security guidelines involving the role of the Designated Approving Authority (DAA) for national security automated information systems containing classified information. The objective was to evaluate NASA's designation and use of DAA's and the compliance of NASA automated information systems with national security guidelines. NASA concurred with the report's seven recommendations, which addressed improved operational effectiveness and management controls.
