City Pets Information
Mayor Chávez has pledged to end animal euthanasia at city shelters by 2009. The mayor is a stong proponent of pet adoption and having pets neutered or spayed.
Albuquerque's HEART pet ordinance imposes an annual fee of $150 on pet owners whose animals are able to reproduce. In additition, residents must have a permit to keep four or more dogs.
These actions make Albuquerque a pet-friendly city.
