Saying adequate child care is one of the surest ways to help families keep jobs and stay off welfare, Senator Carper added that he would look to increase federal child care funds.

Senator Carper taught 5th graders at the Southern Delaware School of the Arts about the United States Constitution and gave each student an autographed pocket-sized copy.

Senator Carper visited the Georgetown CHEER Center. While there Senator Carper ate lunch and talked with senior citizens about Medicare and the new voluntary prescription drug coverage available through Medicare.

At the invitation of Senator Carper, Unoted States Secretary of Veterans Affairs Anthony Principi visited and toured the Wilmington VA Medical Center.

Senator Carper talked to a packed room at the 3rd Annual Service Academy Information Night at Delaware Technical and Community College. The event allowed students from across Delaware to gather information on the service academy application process.

While at Scott Air Force Base in Illinois, Senator Carper and Congressman Mike Castle met with top military officials to discuss the future of the Dover Air Force Base. Senator Carper delivered the following message to reporters - "The base is going to be operating and serving the people well after my tenure and Congressman Castle's tenure in office is over."
