NEW ORLEANS MAN SENTENCED TO OVER 6 YEARS IN FEDERAL PRISON FOR ILLEGAL GUN POSSESSION

NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA - ANTOINE ILON WISE THOMPSON, age 33, a resident of New Orleans, Louisiana, was sentenced today by U. S. District Judge Mary Ann Vial Lemmon to over six (6) years (79 months) imprisonment for being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm, announced U. S. Attorney Jim Letten.

In addition to the term of imprisonment, Judge Lemmon imposed three (3) years of supervised release following the term of imprisonment, during which time the defendant will be under federal supervision and risks an additional term of imprisonment should he violate any terms of his supervised release.

According to court documents, on May 14, 2008, THOMPSON entered a guilty plea before Judge Lemmon admitting that he possessed a Ruger model Mini-14 semi automatic rifle after having been previously convicted of a felony offense.

The Court imposed a sentence within the recommended guidelines range. After sentencing, THOMPSON was remanded to the custody of the United States Marshal’s Service to begin his term of imprisonment.

The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the New Orleans Police Department and was prosecuted by Assistant U. S. Attorney Tony Gordon Sanders pursuant to Project Safe Neighbourhood.
