Lake Andes Man Indicted for Felon in Possession of a Firearm

United States Attorney Marty J. Jackley announced that a man has been indicted by a federal grand jury for illegally possessing a firearm. David McGhee, age 27, of Lake Andes, was indicted by a federal grand jury on January 24, 2008, for felon in possession of a firearm. He appeared before US Magistrate Judge Veronica L. Duffy on July 23, 2008, and pled not guilty to the indictment. The maximum penalty upon conviction is ten years imprisonment and a $250,000 fine; or both. The charge is merely an accusation and McGhee is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty. The investigation is being conducted by the ATF and Assistant US Attorney Gregg S. Peterman is prosecuting the case. McGhee was remanded to the custody of the US Marshal. A trial date has not yet been set.
