ATF's Data Available On-line Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) Special Agent in Charge Edgar A. Domenech, in conjunction with Michael Moriarty, Director of Police for the Jersey City, New Jersey Police Department, today announce the release of the ATF Youth Crime Gun Interdiction Initiative (YCGII) Trace Analysis Report-1999. The YCGII program is in its 4th year in Jersey City. This report compiles and summarizes ATF's crime gun trace information from all sources in an effort to combat violent crime in our community. "ATF is committed to combating firearms violence and the illegal trafficking of firearms into our communities," said SAC Domenech. "We want residents of all ages, especially our children, to feel safe in their neighborhoods. Denying criminals and juveniles access to handguns is a top priority with Federal, as well as State and local law enforcement in New Jersey." This study reveals important trends and patterns regarding crime guns in Jersey City, and the other 35 cities that participated in the program and contributed data as a result of crime gun tracing. The report reveals information concerning the illegal sources of guns to Juveniles (ages 17 & under) and Youth (ages 18-24). YCGII is aimed at identifying and stopping the illegal supply of firearms to children and other prohibited persons.
The total number of crime guns submitted for tracing by the Jersey City Police Department, for this report, was 118. The most frequently traced crime guns by manufacturer and caliber were: 1. RG Industries .22
caliber Only 15% of all traceable crime guns recovered in Jersey City came from federally licensed firearm dealers in New Jersey. The complete report for Jersey City, and other cities will be listed on ATF's Web site, www.atf.gov.
