Weather Wire 2000 Options

CSC offers the following three service options.

C-Band Satellite | Ku-Band Satellite | Internet
Value Added Internet Service

OPTION 1: C-BAND SATELLITE SYSTEM

This CSC proprietary option consists of a 1.8-meter satellite dish and a receiver. The products are delivered to your equipment through a 9-pin serial interface. There is no selector box because the product filtering is done inside the satellite receiver. You set up your selection list locally using simple interactive commands.

For users who wish to alarm products, CSC now offers the Satellite Data Controller (SDC) box, which two serial and two parallel ports for data output. The SDC allows users to filter up to 2,000 products and provides the alarm feature for each filtered product.

Benefits:  Use of a C-band satellite frequency keeps Weather Wire data flowing even in heavy rain, providing users with the same 99.9% availability as the NWS. Combining the selector box and satellite receiver into a single unit with an interactive interface makes product selection easier, reduces your need to interact with the CSC support service and eliminates the fees associated with product updates.

OPTION 2: KU-BAND SATELLITE SYSTEM

CSC transmits Weather Wire data on its popular proprietary Ku-band satellite system, also called NOAAPort Lite. By using a Ku-band satellite frequency, you can use a satellite dish as small as 1.2 meters. If you want to receive other meteorological data streams, such as GRIB and alphanumeric products in addition to your Weather Wire data, then NOAAPort Lite makes sense for you. The NOAAPort Lite system consists of an antenna and satellite receiver. The Weather Wire products are available through a serial interface directly to your PC. An Ethernet interface which connects to your local area network is provided for the GRIB and alphanumeric products. Unlike the C-Band System, the Ku-Band System cannot filter products.

For users who require product filtering, CSC offers the SDC box for the serial interface.

Benefits:  NOAAPort Lite delivers the Weather Wire data over a less expensive equipment suite than the C-band system. In addition, the NOAAPort Lite system can provide you with other meteorological data streams at an additional charge. You can therefore satisfy all your operation's data requirements with a single satellite receiver.

OPTION 3: INTERNET SERVICE

CSC broadcasts the entire Weather Wire product stream on the Internet. To access our service via the Internet you will simply register at the Weather Wire Web site (http://oi.weatherwire.net). The Internet service is free, except for a $75 registration fee. The registration fee is not required during the 30-day trial period. CSC does charge a yearly maintenance fee for those users who require support services for their Internet connection. To continue using the service after the trial period, however, you must register. Doing so will provide you with an account and password.

Once registered, you will be able to tap into the Web broadcast of Weather Wire products. The Internet option does not currently allow product filtering without additional software. The additional software may be purchased from Marta Systems (805-933-1270).

CSC also offers an annual technical assistance and support option for $662.

Benefits:  You can use your existing Internet connection to receive Weather Wire data. Information can be accessed from anywhere that you have Internet access. This low-cost option can be used as a backup to your satellite-delivery system.
