Meteorological stations around Lake Michigan:
GLERL's Marine Instrumentation Laboratory has deployed and is maintaining
a real-time network of shore-based meteorological instrument packages.
The meteorological observations obtained from the network are being
used in GLERL's Great Lakes Coastal Forecasting System to improve
nowcasts and forecasts of wind, waves, water levels, and circulation.
In addition, the National Weather Service has committed resources
to support the network and NWS forecast offices in Chicago, Milwaukee,
and Grand Rapids are using the observations to improve marine forecasts
and warnings. For a map of network locations, check the Real-Time Meteorological Observation Network.
The Milwaukee station measures/records wind speed, wind gust, wind
direction, and air temperature at 5- minute increments and this
information is updated hourly on the web. Milwaukee meteorological station
The Kenosha station measures/records wind speed, wind gust, wind
direction, and air temperature at 5- minute increments and this
information is updated hourly on the web. Kenosha meteorological station
The Chicago station measures/records wind speed, wind gust, wind
direction, and air temperature at 5-minute increments that are updated
every 15 minutes on the web. In addition, a webcam provides an image
of nearshore Chicago waters and skyline that is updated every 30
minutes. Chicago meteorological station
and webcam
The Michigan City station measures/records wind speed, gust, wind
direction, and air temperature at 5-minute increments, updated hourly
on the web. Michigan City meteorological
station
The Muskegon station measures/records wind speed, wind gust, wind
direction, air temperature, dew point, relative humidity, atmospheric
pressure, and light level at 5-minute increments with web updates
of this information every 15 minutes. In addition, four live webcams
update images every 5 minutes with 4-hour animations available from
2 of the webcams at the site. Muskegon meteorological station and webcams
