National Endowment for the Arts 2007 International Literary ExchangesParticipating presses and their translation projectsDALKEY ARCHIVE PRESS Dalkey Archives will work with translation editor Olivia Sears, the founding editor of Two Lines, an annual anthology of international literature translated into English. She is also president and founder of the Center for the Arts of Translation, an organization that promotes international literature and translation through programs in the arts, education, and community outreach. The National Autonomous University of Mexico will publish a bilingual anthology of 15 contemporary U.S. writers. NEA Director for Literature Jon Parrish Peede will edit the anthology. He also serves as Director of the NEA National Initiative, Operation Homecoming: Writing the Wartime Experience, which has resulted in 55 writing workshops, an award-winning anthology from Random House, two documentary films, and a historic literary archive. Dalkey Archives expects to publish the collection in September 2008 with a launch event planned for October 2008 in Washington, D.C. followed by readings and events in two other cities. For more information on Dalkey Archives Press, go to www.dalkeyarchive.com/ EASTERN WASHINGTON UNIVERSITY PRESS The anthology will be edited in Pakistan by Iftikhar Arif, an Urdu poet, scholar, and literary advocate. He has headed the National Language Authority and is currently the Chairman of the Pakistan Academy of Letters. Eastern Washington University Press will identify a translation editor who will recruit a team of literary translators to translate the poems from Urdu and other languages, including Balochi, Sindhi, Punjabi, Saraiki, and Pashto, into English. Kevin Prufer, author of three books of poetry and editor of two anthologies, will edit the anthology of contemporary U.S. poets, to be published in Pakistan by the Pakistan Academy of Letters. Prufer also serves as editor of Pleiades: A Journal of New Writing, an international magazine of poetry, fiction, essays, and reviews, and associate editor of American Book Review. The Press expects to publish the collection by March 2009 with a launch event planned by April 2009 in Washington, D.C. Harvey Hix, a 2006 finalist for the National Book Award for Poetry will edit the anthology. Hix is the author of books of poetry, criticism, and essays, and was awarded a Creative Writing fellowship from the NEA in 1995. Wake Forest University Press expects to publish the anthology by May 2008 with a launch event by October 2008 in Washington, D.C.
