The Kansas City Regional Financial Center was established in 1934 as a disbursing office for the Financial Management Service (FMS), a bureau of the Department of the Treasury. Each of FMS' four Regional Financial Centers is responsible for the disbursement of public monies on behalf of federal civilian agencies. The government's foresight in creating Regional Financial Centers has enhanced the efficiency and accessibility of FMS' services and financial operations to its customers.
