O`AHU BOARDS AND COMMISSIONS APPOINTEES SWORN IN

For Immediate Release: June 30, 2006

HONOLULU – O`ahu residents appointed by Governor Linda Lingle to serve on various state boards and commissions were officially sworn in today at a ceremony held at Washington Place.

This year, the Governor appointed 184 O`ahu residents to 83 different boards and commissions.  Governor Lingle presided over the ceremony and Supreme Court Chief Justice Ronald Moon administered the official oath of office to the new members and commissioners.

“I appreciate the commitment the appointees have made to serving the people of Hawai`i,” said Governor Lingle.  “These individuals contribute a tremendous amount of time, energy and expertise to help enhance government efficiency and effectiveness, and ultimately improve our community.”

Nearly 1,300 people statewide serve on more than 140 boards and commissions that were established by the state constitution, state statutes, or executive orders.  This year’ s appointees included 265 people from around the state to serve on boards that cover a wide range of industries and issues such as Land Use Commission, Board of Dental Examiners, Boxing Commission, Public Housing Administration, Council on Revenues, University of Hawai`i Board of Regents, Stadium Authority, and Elevator Mechanics Licensing Board.  The majority of members serve on a volunteer basis.

A list of new appointees from O`ahu is attached.  Appointees from Maui were sworn in earlier this month, and ceremonies are being scheduled for the other islands.
