Provides information on the health risks posed by substance abuse. The Department of the Army will not tolerate alcohol/drug abuse due to the profound impact upon our defense capability. Consequently, the ASAP has been implemented to combat the ill effects of these problems. The ASAP (formerly the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Program) was established by Executive Order on 28 September 1971 for the purpose of identifying and treating alcohol/drug abuse problems. The primary objective is to restore individuals to full productive performance. ELIGIBILITY/TECHNICAL SERVICES Active duty, family members of active duty, DA Civilian employees, military retirees and their family members. Both the ASAP and the Substance Abuse Rehabilitation Department (SARD) provide a professional staff trained in the biological, psychological, and sociological aspects of chemical dependency. Services provided include: a. Individual
Counseling, Group, Family Counseling NORMAL DUTY HOURS AND LOCATION 0730-1700 hours, Monday thru Friday (ASAP Sweep Team is always on call). Emergency counseling services can be provided during non-duty hours by contacting the Moncrief Army Community Hospital (MACH) Emergency Room. SARD is located on the 7th Floor, East Wing of MACH, telephone: 751-6597 or 751-7312. Other services such as urinalysis screenings for ROTC/OCS/OSHA packets are available in Building 3250 on Sumter Avenue; please call 751-5007 to schedule an appointment. EMPLOYEE ASSISTANCE PROGRAM The Employee Assistance Program Manager (EAP) provides DA civilians the opportunity to address any personal problem that is impacting or could impact their duty performance. If the personal problem happens to be alcohol/drug related, direct services are available through the ASAP. For other kinds of problems, the EAP Coordinator will arrange for assistance/treatment through an appropriate agency. RISK REDUCTION PROGRAM Bldg 3250, Sumter Ave, is available 0730-1630, Monday thru Friday. The Risk Reduction Program (RRP) is a commander’s tool to prevent, reduce, and manage high-risk Soldier behaviors and promotes a prevention-focused approach, thus increasing Solider and unit readiness. Quarterly data is provided to commanders furnishing a “snap shot” of their unit relating to 14 risk factors (i.e., Deaths, Accidents, Injuries, STDs, Suicide Gestures and Attempts, AWOLS, Drug Offenses, Alcohol Offenses, Traffic Violations, Crimes against Persons, Crimes against Property, Spouse Abuse, Child Abuse, and Finance). The Risk Reduction Program Coordinator (RRPC) assists commanders and facilitates installation resources to identify specific intervention services. Commanders can quickly identify problem areas and react with additional awareness training. |
