Public Schedule for the Week of August 25-29, 2008

August 25, Governor Lingle will announce this month’s recipients of the Governor’s Innovation Awards.  The awards, which are part of the Lingle-Aiona Administration’s Hawai‘i Innovation Initiative, recognize deserving individuals, companies, nonprofits, organizations and government agencies that are developing innovative ways to improve Hawai‘i and to meet the challenges of the 21st century.

August 26, Governor Lingle and State Tourism Liaison Marsha Wienert will meet with hotel owners and operators of properties statewide, including: Outrigger, Marriott, Hawai‘i Prince, HTH Corporation, Starwood, Halekulani, Ocean Resort, Kahala Hotel and Resort, Resort Quest Hawai‘i, New Otani, Ko Olina, Royal Hawaiian, Hyatt, Kona Village, Aqua Hotels and Resorts, ‘Ilima Hotels, and the Hawai‘i Hotel Association.

August 26, Governor Lingle will meet with Steve Johnson, administrator for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, to discuss matters such as clean water and vog.  

August 27, As part of the Administration’s efforts to have 70 percent of Hawai‘i’s energy come from clean renewable sources by 2030, Governor Lingle will announce the appointment of the state’s first energy facilitator, whose responsibilities will include creating a streamlined permitting process for renewable energy projects.  The Governor will also announce an effort by the Hawai‘i Public Housing Authority to increase energy efficiency at public housing facilities statewide.

August 28, Governor Lingle will visit Puahala Homes, a public housing facility in Kalihi where families who were staying at the state’s Next Step homeless shelter recently moved into units that were converted into transitional housing.  The previously uninhabitable units were refurbished by work-line inmate crews from Halawa Correctional Facility. 

August 29 – September 8, Governor Lingle will depart for St. Paul, Minn. to participate in the Republican National Convention, which starts on Sept. 1.  The Governor returns to Hawai‘i on Sept. 8.
