Public Schedule March 4-7, 2008

March 4, Governor Linda Lingle will host a public “talk story” meeting to discuss the community’s ideas about a proposal to purchase the 850-acre Turtle Bay property, including five miles of pristine coastline on O‘ahu’s North Shore.  Since the Governor raised the idea in her State of the State Address on Jan. 22, she has been in discussions with residents, community leaders, legislators, conservationists, nonprofit groups, the private sector and U.S. Secretary of the Interior Dirk Kempthorne on how to purchase the property and protect the natural resources and rural lifestyle of this important area.  The talk story is designed to continue this productive dialogue and to hear directly from North Shore residents and leaders regarding the community’s ideas about the Turtle Bay initiative.

March 5, Governor Lingle will discuss state issues on her monthly radio show.  Listeners are invited to call 808-521-8383 from O‘ahu or 888-565-8383 from the Neighbor Islands with questions and comments.  The show can be heard live statewide on O‘ahu (KHVH 830 AM), Maui/Kona (KAOI 1110 AM), Hilo (KPUA 670 AM), and Kaua‘i (KONG 570 AM).

March 7, Governor Lingle will join government, business and community leaders in kicking off “Hats Off to American Red Cross,” a fundraising event as part of National Red Cross Month.

March 7, Governor Lingle will meet with Dan Piccuta, deputy chief of missions to the U.S. Embassy in China, to discuss issues such as the recent memorandum of understanding between the U.S. and China that will bring more visitors to Hawai‘i and other parts of the U.S. by facilitating group leisure travel from China; the continuing efforts between Hawai‘i and China to facilitate two-way travel, trade and educational exchanges; and potential benefits to Hawai‘i as a result of the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing.
