The National Vaccine Advisory Committee (NVAC)

NVAC Subcommittees

The NVAC has four subcommittees to address specific vaccine and immunization issues.

  • SUBCOMMITTEE ON VACCINE DEVELOPMENT & SUPPLY
    Charge: The Subcommittee will consider policy options and inform NVAC discussions and recommendations regarding the development, licensure, and best use of new and existing vaccines including: new or improved vaccines for infectious and non-infectious conditions; vaccines using new technologies; and new approaches to vaccine delivery. The Subcommittee will identify research needs and priorities related to these aspects of vaccine development. The Subcommittee will also consider policy options and inform NVAC discussions and recommendations regarding the development and maintenance of an adequate and secure supply of recommended vaccines.

  • SUBCOMMITTEE ON SAFETY
    Charge: The Subcommittee will consider policy options and inform NVAC discussions and recommendations regarding vaccine safety issues. In addition, the Subcommittee will review priorities relating to the safety of vaccines and immunization and report regularly to NVAC and the Department on the progress of such priorities.

  • SUBCOMMITTEE ON COMMUNICATION & PUBLIC ENGAGEMENT
    Charge: The Subcommittee will consider and inform the NVAC discussions and recommendations regarding methods that will effectively communicate the benefits and risks of vaccines to the public, policymakers, and key stakeholders and provide effective opportunities for ongoing dialogue with the public on vaccine and immunization issues.

  • SUBCOMMITTEE ON IMMUNIZATION COVERAGE
    Charge: The Subcommittee will consider policy options and inform NVAC discussions and recommendations regarding improvements in immunization coverage levels, including issues related to the financing of vaccines, for infants, children, adolescents, and adults.

The Subcommittees are chaired by NVAC members. Federal Ex-Officio members and NVPO’s Associate Directors and Deputy Director are responsible for staffing the Subcommittees and working with the Chairs.
