Public Schedule for the Week of July 21-26, 2008

July 21, Members of the 100th Infantry Battalion Veterans will thank Governor Lingle for her support of their organization and all Hawai`i veterans.  Last year the Governor released two grants-in-aid to support the 100th Infantry Battalion Veterans' learning center as well as apartment project which provides affordable housing to veterans.

July 21, Governor Lingle will discuss state issues on the afternoon drive-time radio show with host Mike Buck from 5:00 - 6:00 p.m. HST.  Starting this month the show can be heard live in Hilo (The Beach, KTBH 102.1 FM), in addition to Maui (KAOI 1110 AM), Kaua`i (KQNG 570 AM), and O`ahu (KHVH 830 AM).  Listeners are invited to call 808-521-8383 from O`ahu or 888-565-8383 from the Neighbor Islands with questions and comments.

July 21, Governor Lingle and State Budget and Finance Director Georgina Kawamura will welcome state budget officers from across the nation as they gather in Hawai`i for the annual meeting of the National Association of State Budget Officers (NASBO).  Budget officers from 23 states, as well as the District of Columbia and two U.S. territories will participate in the three-day conference.  The last time NASBO held its annual meeting in Hawai‘i was 1981.

July 24, Governor Lingle, at the invitation and expense of the U.S. Department of Energy, will travel to Nassau to participate in a conference that focuses on developing renewable energy solutions for island nations, states and territories, such as Hawai‘i as well as Caribbean island nations.  The Governor will also participate in the announcement of an international partnership for energy development in island nations to facilitate the development and deployment of clean energy technologies that utilize indigenous renewable energy resources and reduce dependence on fossil fuels.  The Governor's involvement is an extension of the Hawai`i Clean Energy Initiative, a public-private partnership formed in January between the State and Department of Energy to move Hawai`i toward having 70 percent of its energy come from clean energy sources by 2030.

July 25-26, Governor Lingle will participate in a regulatory training workshop at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory in Colorado as part of the Hawai`i Clean Energy Initiative.  The training, led by national experts on utility regulation continues a series of workshops that began this past spring to inform and equip Hawai`i regulators with the tools and options to develop the regulatory framework needed to enable Hawai`i to achieve its renewable energy goals. The workshop will be attended by commissioners and staff of the Hawai`i Public Utilities Commission, the state consumer advocate, Hawai`i utilities industry representatives, chairs of the Senate and House energy committees, county energy commissioners and private sector representatives.
