Public Schedule: March 17-21, 2008

March 17, Governor Lingle will serve on a panel that will evaluate presentations by eighth grade students who will discuss policy recommendations researched and developed by the students for solutions to the homeless emergency in Hawai‘i. The presentation is part of a social studies project to improve students’ civic knowledge and involvement in community issues.  Other student presentations will focus on issues such as energy efficiency and waste management. 

March 17, Governor Lingle will discuss state issues on the afternoon drive-time radio show from 5:00 – 6:00 p.m. with host Mike Buck.  The public is invited to call in at 521-8383 with questions and comments.  The show can be heard live on KHVH 830 AM.  Recordings of radio shows are archived on the Governor’s Web site www.hawaii.gov/gov.

March 19, The Governor’s Turtle Bay Advisory Working Group will meet to continue discussions on how to acquire and preserve for public use the Turtle Bay property on O‘ahu’s North Shore.

March 19, The Lingle-Aiona Administration will be honored by Sales and Marketing Executives International (SMEI), Honolulu Chapter, as the 2007 Salesperson of the Year.  Each year SMEI selects an individual who enhances Hawai‘i and the quality of life in our community. Governor Lingle is the 50th recipient of the honor. She will accept the award on behalf of her entire Cabinet.

March 20, Governor Lingle will deliver remarks at the opening of the 14th Annual Primetime Wellness Fair.  The event, which is geared toward seniors, will provide the latest information on healthy living, enabling people to make informed choices about their personal well-being.

March 20, Governor Lingle, a former toastmaster, will address Hawai‘i Pacific University’s Polyglot Toastmasters Club. 

March 21, HOLIDAY - Good Friday

March 21, The Governor will deliver remarks at the 25th anniversary gala performance of Chamber Music Hawai‘i.  The concert will feature pianist Jon Kimura Parker and 14 musicians of Chamber Music Hawai‘i, who comprise the Spring Wind Quintet, the Galliard String Quartet and the Honolulu Brass.

March 27 – 29, Governor Lingle and Lt. Governor Aiona will kick off the Inaugural 2008 NASA / BAE Systems FIRST in Hawai‘i Regional Robotics Competition.  Thirty-seven high school robotics teams (700 students) from Hawai‘i, West Virginia, New Jersey, Florida and California will test their academic skills, innovation, critical thinking, problem-solving, communication and teamwork. The Lingle-Aiona Administration is supporting robotics as a key component of the Hawai‘i Innovation Initiative to engage Hawai‘i students in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) and to foster the innovation capacity in Hawai‘i residents.  The event is free and open to the public. For more information or to sign up to be a volunteer, visit www.robotics.hawaii.gov or call Corrie Heck at 586-0718.
