Public Schedule for the Week of August 18-23, 2008

August 18, Governor Lingle will discuss state issues on the afternoon drive-time radio show with host Mike Buck from 5-6 p.m. HST.  The show can be heard live in Hilo (The Beach, KTBH 102.1 FM), Maui (KAOI 1110 AM), Kaua`i (KQNG 570 AM), and O`ahu (KHVH 830 AM), as well as on the Governor's Web site www.hawaii.gov/gov.  Listeners are invited to call 808-521-8383 from O`ahu or 888-565-8383 from the Neighbor Islands with questions and comments.

August 20, Governor Lingle will participate in the dedication and grand opening of the Kahikolu `Ohana `O Wai`anae emergency, transitional and affordable rental apartment project.  The facility, which was developed in partnership with the Hawai`i Coalition of Christian Churches, will serve up to 250 homeless individuals.  It is the third facility to be opened under an emergency declaration by the Governor to address the homeless crisis along Oahu's Leeward Coast. The emergency proclamation enabled the state and its partners to develop and open the Onelau`ena shelter at Kalaeloa in October 2006 and the Pai`olu Kaiāulu shelter in Wai`anae in March 2007, which together have served more than 1,500 individuals who were previously living in parks or on beaches along the Leeward Coast.  Two additional facilities being developed under the expedited emergency declaration are scheduled to open this fall, including Building 36, a former military building at Kalaeloa that will accommodate up to 150 people, and Villages at Ma`ili which will house up to 250 people and is being developed by a private developer at no profit.  Three other shelters have been developed by the state and its partners under emergency declarations issued by the Governor including the Next Step Shelter in Kaka`ako on O‘ahu and the Manaolana and Ka Uapo shelters on Kaua`i.

August 21, The Governor will recognize exceptional volunteers, 55 years and older, who contribute to the community through their time, talents, wisdom, skills and experience.  Governor Lingle will honor the volunteers at the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) 36th Annual Recognition Luncheon.

August 23, Governor Lingle will attend the 80th Anniversary luncheon of the Chinese Women's Club of Honolulu.

August 23, The Governor will attend the 28th annual Greek Festival, which is a fundraiser for the Saints Constantine & Helen's Greek Orthodox Church in Honolulu. The festival is a celebration of Greek food, culture and entertainment.
