Public Schedule for the Week of June 2-6, 2008

June 2, Governor Lingle will meet with 12-year-old Michael “Mikey” Forbes, who has severe hemophilia, and his family, who were flown to Hawai‘i by the Make-a-Wish Foundation. Forbes’ wish is to visit Hawai‘i, meet the Governor, discuss Hawai‘i’s medical system and its coverage of children and the uninsured, and learn what it’s like to live here.  Forbes is considering a career in medicine.  Last year, the Make-a-Wish Foundation granted 627 wishes to visit Hawai‘i.

June 4, Governor Lingle will discuss state issues on her monthly radio show from 7:05 - 8:00 a.m. HST.  Listeners are invited to call 808-521-8383 from O‘ahu or 888-565-8383 from the Neighbor Islands with questions and comments.  The show can be heard live statewide on O‘ahu (KHVH 830 AM), Maui/Kona (KAOI 1110 AM), Hilo (KPUA 670 AM), and Kaua‘i (KONG 570 AM).  Recordings of past shows are archived on the Governor’s Web site www.hawaii.gov/gov.

June 4, Governor Lingle will deliver the keynote address at the North Shore Chamber of Commerce installation banquet.  The Governor will also provide an update on the collaborative effort to acquire and preserve the Turtle Bay property, while maintaining the economic viability of the existing resort.

June 5, The Governor will meet with leaders of the Pan-Pacific Festival-Matsuri, which will take place June 6-8 in Waikīkī.  This year’s festival will feature Taiko drummers, Korean ethnic dancers, traditional Japanese performances, hula, food, arts and crafts, and the Pan-Pacific Matsuri Parade.  The festival, which started in 1980 as a cultural bridge between Hawai‘i and Japan, has grown to include other Pacific Rim nations.  The events coincide with the annual King Kamehameha Celebration Floral Parade on June 7.

June 5, Governor Lingle will be the keynote speaker at the Associated Builders and Contractors’ annual Founders Dinner.
