Information for Publishers

Millions of education researchers and practitioners search ERIC for its wealth of high-quality education information. Help them find your materials by becoming part of this enduring collection of education literature indexed from 1966 to the present. ERIC is sponsored by the U.S. Department of Education, Institute of Education Sciences.

Benefits of Participating in ERIC

As users of ERIC locate your relevant materials, you will:

  • Reach potential new members, subscribers, and customers
  • Promote publications at no cost
  • Gain acknowledgement of your organization in ERIC
  • Expand the accessibility of your Web site through links in the ERIC bibliographic record
  • Increase exposure to an international audience
  • Ensure long-term distribution after materials cease to be available from your organization (using optional, no-cost, full-text access within ERIC)

ERIC does not require an exclusive agreement. Working with multiple database vendors and third-party sources enables publishers to achieve maximum exposure. There are no fees associated with participating in ERIC.

ERIC User Access

ERIC is used by researchers, teachers, teacher educators, administrators, librarians, education students, and the general public throughout the United States and around the world. ERIC users conduct more than 7 million searches each month through the ERIC Web site and other participating sites and services.

Types of Materials Indexed in ERIC

ERIC is currently indexing journals, books, and grey literature directly related to the field of education and published or prepared between 2004 and the present.

The ERIC Selection Policy Download ERIC Selection Policy guides the selection of materials. Following a successful review of your organization and the types of materials you provide (see Review Process), ERIC will contact the publisher or organization to seek permission to index the materials in ERIC. Details are spelled out in an agreement signed by both parties.

Contents of an ERIC Record

The ERIC record Download Sample ERIC Bibliographic record contains bibliographic information and an abstract. For publications from 2004 forward, ERIC also includes a link to the publisher’s Web site. This feature helps the user obtain access to the full text when full text is not available in ERIC by directing users to publisher-provided information about subscription, membership, or document delivery; pay-per-view access; or free full-text access.

Publishers have the option to display full text within ERIC, either when an item is published or after a publisher-specified embargo period.
