In this true-color Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) image from August 30, 2002, Typhoon Rusa had moved westward from the previous day—s location, and the outer bands of clouds covered South Korea(top) and the southernmost island of Japan (Kyushu, center). Clouds reach westward as far as the China coast. This image was acquired by the Aqua MODIS instrument.
