Medicare Bus Mobile Office
Tour Visits Philadelphia
The
Medicare Bus Mobile Office Tour made two stops in Philadelphia;
and the Social Security Administration (SSA) was there to help.
First, the Bus visited Congreso de Latinos Unidos. Nancy O'Connor,
Regional Administrator for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid
Services (CMS), addressed the audience in English. Her remarks
were simultaneously translated into Spanish for the benefit of
those with limited English proficiency. Ms. O'Conner emphasized
the subsidy available through Social Security’s Extra
Help program.
Patrick L. Meehan, United States Attorney for the Eastern District
of Pennsylvania, then spoke about Medicare scams and the importance
of protecting your Social Security Number. Aurelia Serrano-Wilson,
SSA Operations Supervisor, teamed with SSA Public Affairs Specialist
Ed Lafferty to provide information about the extra help available
to pay for Medicare prescription drug costs. Aurelia addressed
the crowd and answered questions in both English and Spanish.
The next stop for the Medicare Bus was the On Lok House
Senior Center, where Ms. O’Connor addressed the
audience in English. Her remarks were then translated into Mandarin
and Cantonese. She again emphasized the extra help available
through Social Security. U. S. Attorney Meehan again urged the
audience to be aware of the many Medicare scams and the importance
of protecting your Social Security Number. David Chen, SSA Public
Affairs Specialist, and Ed Lafferty provided information packets
for all the attendees and answered several questions.
At both events, information about Social Security and Medicare
was plentiful.
