Philadelphia Region Congressional Briefing
Friday, March 28, 2008

The Philadelphia Region held its first Congressional Briefing for 2008 on Friday, March 28 th in the Regional Office at the Mid-Atlantic Social Security Center. Based on previous briefing evaluation responses and the push for Social Security Online Services at this time, we chose to hold a two-issue briefing. The topics discussed were the Office of Disability, Adjudication and Review (ODAR) and Social Security Online Services. We were pleased to have 22 Congressional staffers in attendance from the Philadelphia Region.

Presentation on Social Security Online ServicesODAR gave a very informative presentation. ODAR provided a PowerPoint presentation that detailed case workloads, staffing, and much more. Also, we were fortunate to have several team members from the Philadelphia Region Center for Disability Programs on hand to address questions unrelated to ODAR jurisdiction, but connected to the disability process. It proved to be a great networking opportunity for all involved.

A PowerPoint presentation was customized for the Congressional staffers depicting Social Security Online Services (www.socialsecurity.gov). The training demonstrated to the Congressional staffers how they might use the website to make their work easier and assist with constituent issues. The training was well received and many staffers were amazed at the amount of information that is on the SSA website. ODAR representatives were present and provided information pertinent to the staffers about the ODAR page.

The day went quickly and, from the evaluation responses, was a successful briefing.
