Open House Celebration
On November 8 th, 2007 the Philadelphia-Northeast Social Security
Office held an open house for their new location in the Northeast
Shopping Center at 2373 Welsh Road. The new office officially opened
for business in May 2007. The event was held to welcome the community
to their new field office. It was hosted by District Manager
Robert Mannion and the entire Philadelphia-Northeast office staff.
The guest speaker was Regional Commissioner (RC) Laurie Watkins.
The Philadelphia-Northeast Office has a long and interesting history.
The original office opened in November 1939 at Kensington and Allegheny
Avenues. It was relocated to Frankford Avenue in 1961 and then to
Bustleton Avenue in September 1969. The Bustleton Avenue Office was
the first in the Philadelphia Metropolitan area, and one of the first
in the country, to be designed, constructed and financed by the Federal
Government exclusively as a Social Security Office.
