Open House Celebration

Ribbon CuttingOn November 8 th, 2007 the Philadelphia-Northeast Social Security Office held an open house for their new location in the Northeast Shopping Center at 2373 Welsh Road. The new office officially opened for business in May 2007. The event was held to welcome the community to their new field office.  It was hosted by District Manager Robert Mannion and the entire Philadelphia-Northeast office staff. The guest speaker was Regional Commissioner (RC) Laurie Watkins.

The Philadelphia-Northeast Office has a long and interesting history. Northeast Office History ExhibitThe original office opened in November 1939 at Kensington and Allegheny Avenues. It was relocated to Frankford Avenue in 1961 and then to Bustleton Avenue in September 1969. The Bustleton Avenue Office was the first in the Philadelphia Metropolitan area, and one of the first in the country, to be designed, constructed and financed by the Federal Government exclusively as a Social Security Office.
