DOE’s National Science Bowl® Finals Kick Off April 27, 2006
America’s Future Scientists and Engineers Show What They Know
WASHINGTON, DC – Teams representing high schools in 42 states will compete in The Department of Energy’s (DOE) National Science Bowl® in Washington, D.C., April 27 through May 1, 2006. DOE’s National Science Bowl® is the nation’s largest academic competition of its kind and the only competition sponsored by a federal agency.
Each participating team won one of the event’s 65 regional tournaments to earn an all-expense-paid trip to the National Science Bowl®. This year, more than 12,000 high school students from 1,800 schools in 42 states, the District of Columbia and the U.S. Virgin Islands, competed in regional events. NOTE: Secretary of Energy Samuel Bodman will present the awards after the championship round. He will join Secretary of Education Margaret Spellings and Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Stephen L. Johnson to offer brief remarks during the awards ceremony, which is scheduled for 12:00 pm, immediately following the championship match.
