BOMA Testifies Before Congress on “Credit Crunch” Ramifications

The Office Building Show

BOMA International testified before a Congressional Subcommittee hearing on how the recent housing and financial “credit crunch” is seeping into the commercial market and affecting federal leasing and construction. BOMA International Chair Dick Purtell briefed subcommittee members on the difficulty in securing capital for new projects and renovations impacting public as well as private sector buildings.

TRIA Study: Coverage in High Risk Areas Expensive

The Government Accountability Office released the results of a recent study to determine if specific markets in the U.S. have unique constraints on the amount of terrorism insurance available. BOMA Iowa Responds to Midwest Flood Crisis

Responding to the destruction left by the devastating flooding in several cities, town and counties in Iowa, BOMA Iowa has donated $15,000 to the American Red Cross to assist in the relief efforts. The majority of Iowa’s counties have been declared disaster areas by both President Bush and the Governor of Iowa. Those who wish to make a contribution, can donate to any one of several charitable organizations that are helping with flood and tornado relief.


BOMA and CCI Announce Energy Performance Contract Model

BOMA International and the Clinton Climate Initiative (CCI) held a press conference at the BOMA International Conference in Denver to announce the new BOMA Energy Performance Contract Model. BOMA Chairman Brenna S. Walraven was joined by Arah Schuur, director, building retrofit program for CCI and Henry Chamberlain, president, BOMA International in announcing the details of the landmark model that removes barriers to performing energy retrofits to existing buildings.

BOMA Testifies Before Congress on GSA Lease and Construction Process

BOMA International testified before Congress on June 6 about making the General Services Administration (GSA) lease and construction process efficient, transparent and user-friendly. Gail H. Seekins, senior property manager with Akridge and a past president of the Apartment and Office Building Association in Washington, D.C., represented BOMA before a House hearing of the Subcommittee on Economic Development, Public Buildings and Emergency Management Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure. BOMA International Joins More than 100 Organizations Urging Senate Passage of Tax “Extenders”

BOMA International  joined a coalition of more than 100 organizations calling on the United States Senate to pass immediately legislation that would extend a set of tax provisions that either expired at the end of 2007 or will expire at the end of 2008.   Among the extenders in the bill are the 15-year timeline for depreciating leasehold improvements and the expensing of brownfields clean-up costs, both of which expired at the end of 2007.
