MLA Privacy Notice
The Medical Library Association (MLA) is sensitive to privacy issues
on the Internet. We believe it is important that you know how we treat
the information about you we receive via the Internet, and who can access
information about you located on MLANET.
When You Visit MLANET
In general, you can visit MLANET without telling us who you are or revealing
any personal information about yourself. Our Web servers collect the domain
names, not the email addresses, of visitors. This information is aggregated
to measure the number of visits, average time spent on the site, pages
viewed, etc. MLA uses this information to measure the use of our site
and to improve the content of MLANET for members. MLA does not track visitors
to our site in order to sell or give away the information. For periodic
statistics about traffic on our site, visit the MLANET Web
statistics.
Members-Only Access
There are times, however, when we may need information from you, such
as when you access the members-only areas of MLANET. At that time, we
collect from you your member ID and password. These items are used to
authorize your access to the members-only site through a comparison with
our database.
If you leave MLANET (but do not close your browser), you will still be
able to access the members-only area if you return. To ensure that unauthorized
persons cannot access any confidential data about you, or use your member
benefits, we encourage you to close your browser window when you have
finished accessing the members-only area of MLANET.
Other MLA members can access contact information about you, information
formerly available in the printed MLA membership Directory. Vendor
representatives who hold MLA membership are NOT authorized to use your
contact information available on MLANET for marketing purposes. Members
are not authorized to use Directory information to "spam"
other members.
Collecting Information
When we collect any other information from you, we try to let you know
at the time of collection how we will use the information. Usually, the
information we collect is used in aggregate, or internally to respond
to inquiries, process orders, collect confidential survey data, or to
allow you to access specific member information.

MLANET may contain links to other sites, such as MLA sections, chapters,
meeting sponsors, and related organizations. We hope these sites share
our high standards and respect for privacy; however, MLA is not responsible
for the content or the privacy practices employed by other sites.
