Novel Materials, Ultrafast Processes, Nanodevices
Advanced Photon Science Initiative (APSI)
Imagine being able to watch atoms snap together into nano-scale structures within the millionths of a billionth of a second that is the time-scale of chemical reactions. Imagine being able to control the magnetic, electronic, photonic, or spin properties of these nanostructures. For such possibilities to become realities, scientists will need a new generation of super bright and super fast light sources. Berkeley Lab researchers are proposing a new ground-breaking, next-generation, accelerator-based Free Electron Laser.
