Stewardship of the U.S. nuclear weapons stockpile is the foremost responsibility of Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory.
The mission of the Weapons and Complex Integration (WCI)
principal directorate is to support the nation’s
Stockpile Stewardship Program and to be a key contributor
in redefining the nuclear weapons complex.
The goals of the WCI principal directorate in support of
its mission include:
Designing, assessing, and certifying the nuclear weapons
stockpile without nuclear testing
Enabling a sustainable nuclear deterrent
Developing game-changing technology
Mitigating the nuclear threat
Enabling responsiveness through efficient investments
in infrastructure and workforce
Teaming with others to support science and technology
for national security missions
WCI will continue to ensure LLNL’s preeminence in
weapons science and technology by investing in computer
simulation, lasers, high-energy-density physics, actinide
theory, high-explosives research and development, and the
multidisciplinary arena of physics, materials science,
and engineering.
