The City of Albuquerque and ABQ RIDE Get National Attention

Improvements and Increased Ridership Profiled in National Magazine

ALBUQUERQUE - Mayor Chavez and Greg PayneMayor Martin Chávez and ABQ RIDE Director, Greg Payne announced today that Albuquerque’s Transit Department is the featured case study in the April 2008 issue of “American City and County” magazine.

The magazine is a nationally distributed magazine with a circulation that reaches more than 66,000 government officials in cities and counties and more than 10,000 at the state level.  The magazine focuses on administration and operations management; covering key topics affecting government officials at the local, county and state levels.

“It is rewarding to know that our efforts are being recognized by a magazine that reaches our peers,” said Mayor Chávez.  “Director Payne and the men and women of ABQ RIDE have worked hard to make our transit department better.”

The magazine article focuses on many of the improvements and changes that have taken place since December 2005, when Mayor Chávez appointed Greg Payne director of ABQ RIDE.  In addition to the growth in ridership, “American City and County” highlights the modernization of the bus fleet with the purchase of the diesel/electric hybrid buses and the success of the Rapid Ride bus rapid transit routes.

“My hope is that our achievements will not only inspire our peers around the country, but also our community, our staff and our leaders to continue to make ABQ RIDE the transit department Albuquerque deserves,” added Director Payne.
