GOV. RITTER UNVEILS GOVERNOR'S ARTS AWARD PAINTING

Gov. Bill Ritter today unveiled a painting by Colorado artist Joellyn Duesberry in the main reception area of the Governor's Office. Duesberry was commissioned last year by the Colorado Council on the Arts to create two pieces of art for the state.

The first piece was presented to the city of Grand Junction in August when Grand Junction was named the recipient of the 2007 Governor's Arts Award for its commitment to the arts. That piece now hangs in Grand Junction City Hall.

Today, Gov. Ritter unveiled Duesberry's second piece of art, an oil painting entitled "Early Spring on the South Platte River near Denver." It will hang in the main reception area of the Governor's Office at the State Capitol.

Duesberry divides her time between studios in Denver and Millbrook, N.Y. Seven galleries throughout the United States currently display her art, including Denver's William Havu Gallery.

The Governor's Arts Award was re-established by Gov. Ritter in 2007. Nomination forms for the 2008 awards are available on the Colorado Council on the Arts website at www.coloarts.org. The submission deadline is April 4. A separate "call to artists" interested in competing for the 2008 commission will soon be available on the CCA website as well.
