GOV. RITTER LAUDS PLAN FOR STATE'S LARGEST WIND FARM

Gov. Bill Ritter today praised plans by BP Alternative Energy North America Inc. to build what will be the state's largest wind farm.

"This project is a perfect example of how we are going to create a New Energy Economy in Colorado," Ritter said. "Colorado is the 11th windiest state in the nation. This project will help us maximize our abundant supply of wind power and at the same time stimulate our economy."

BP's Cedar Creek project calls for a 274-turbine wind farm on a 32,000-acre site in Weld County. It would be one of the largest wind farms in the country, supplying the state with 300 megawatts of power by the end of this year, enough carbon-free electricity to power 120,000 homes.

The project will create up to 250 jobs.

"The timing couldn't be better," Ritter said. "During both my inaugural and state-of-the-state speeches this week, I vowed that we will make Colorado a national leader in renewable energy. BP and the Cedar Creek project will help us get there."
