GOV. RITTER APPOINTS WILLIAM W. HOOD TO DENVER DISTRICT COURT BENCH

Gov. Bill Ritter today announced the appointment of William W. Hood of Denver to the 2nd Judicial District in Denver.

"William Hood welcomes the challenges that often confront a district court judge," Ritter said. "I am confident he will work tirelessly to ensure the law is carried out properly, efficiently and fairly."

Hood is an attorney in private practice with the law firm of Isaacson Rosenbaum. He previously served as a chief deputy district attorney in the 18th Judicial District and as an associate at McKenna and Cuneo.

Hood teaches as an adjunct professor at the University of Denver Sturm College of Law and volunteers his time with both Big Brothers and the New Genesis Homeless Shelter. He also is active in a variety of pro bono legal work.

Hood received his bachelor's degree from Syracuse University in 1985, where he graduated Phi Beta Kappa. He earned his law degree from the Virginia Law School in 1990.

The 2nd Judicial District includes the city and county of Denver. Hood fills the vacancy left by the Honorable John N. McMullen.

The initial term of office for a District Court judge is a provisional term of two years; thereafter, the incumbent will have a term of six years if approved by the voters.
