In Section 406(b) of the Food and Drug Administration Modernization Act of 1997 (FDAMA), Congress recognizes that FDA's responsibilities are vast and that the Agency's stakeholders can play an important role in helping the Agency determine how best to meet these responsibilities.
On April 28, 1999, FDA held public meetings and an interactive satellite teleconference/webcast [31K pdf file] titled "Talking with Stakeholders About FDA Modernization." The purpose of the meetings was to discuss the agency's progress in implementing FDAMA and to seek additional input on specific FDAMA performance targets.
The teleconference featured Jane E. Henney, Commissioner of Food and Drugs, and Linda A. Suydam, Associate Commissioner for Strategic Management. The meetings were held in several locations throughout the country and were open to all stakeholders. They were co-hosted by FDA's field offices and centers.
