GOV. RITTER ORDERS FLAGS LOWERED ON FRIDAY FOR COLORADO LAW ENFORCEMENT MEMORIAL DAY
Gov. Bill Ritter has ordered Colorado and U.S. flags lowered to half-staff on Friday, May 2, 2008, statewide in honor of Colorado Law Enforcement Memorial Day.
A Colorado Law Enforcement Memorial service takes place each year on the first Friday in May -- an occasion during which people across the state remember and honor fallen law enforcement officers from the previous year.
This year, the names of two law enforcement officers killed in 2007 -- Colorado State Patrol Trooper Zachariah Templeton and Aurora Police Officer Douglas D. Byrne -- will be added to the Memorial.
Based on historical research, three other names also are being added:
Lamar Night Marshal J. Horace Frisbie, 1906;
Routt County Deputy Charles E. Gibbs, 1929;
Paonia Town Marshal John Armour Stitt, 1952.
Friday's ceremony begins at 10 a.m. at the Colorado State Patrol Academy, Camp George West, and 15055 S. Golden Road, Golden.
