Brent Olson has been appointed Deputy Chief of the Common Carrier Bureau's Policy and Program Planning Division. The Policy Division handles the implementation of numerous key provisions of the Telecommunications Act of 1996, including evaluating applications by the Bell Operating Companies to enter the long distance market, and reviewing license transfer applications filed by common carriers. Mr. Olson previously worked at the FCC from 1993 to 1999. Prior to re- joining the Commission, Mr. Olson served for approximately two years as Director, Domestic Regulatory Affairs for Cable & Wireless USA, Inc. From 1996 to 1999, Mr. Olson served as a senior attorney in the Policy Division where he worked on a number of matters implementing the Telecommunications Act of 1996. Between 1993 and 1996, Mr. Olson worked as a staff attorney in the FCC's Cable Services Bureau and Wireless Telecommunications Bureau.
