Plant: erect, perennial, emergent semi-aquatic, 1'-3 1/2' tall with stout stems
Flower: female flower green to white, 3-parted; inflorescence 3/4" round heads on either a branched or unbranched stalk; blooms June-July
Fruit:dull brown nutlet with a straight beak, fruit drawing in bur-like heads
Leaf:flat, not stiff
Habitat: sun; wet; shores, shallows; in muddy soil
