FCC BUDGET OF $237,188,000 PROPOSED FOR FISCAL YEAR 2001

The President has submitted a budget to Congress that proposes a fiscal year 2001 budget for the Federal Communications Commission of $237,188,000 and a staffing ceiling of 1,975 full-time equivalents (FTEs). This budget represents an increase of $27,188,000 over the FY 2000 appropriation level of $210,000,000, but no increase to the FTE level.

Nearly half of the requested FY 2001 increase in the funding level ($12,796,000) will cover mandatory increases for salaries and benefits and other areas and inflationary increases for contract services. The balance of the requested increase ($14,392,000) includes funds to replace outmoded computer equipment, maintenance of electronic filing systems and productivity enhancements to the Commission's information technology infrastructure.
