Report No. WT 98-1 WIRELESS TELECOM ACTION January 7, 1998

COMMISSION CHANGES DATE FOR C-BLOCK LICENSEES TO ELECT
RESTRUCTURING OPTIONS; ANNOUNCES C-BLOCK REAUCTION DATE
(WT Docket 97-82 )

In a minor modification to the Second Report and Order adopted on September 25, 1997, the Federal Communications Commission has changed the deadline for broadband Personal Communications Services (PCS) C-Block licensees to make an election from one of the options set forth in the Second Report and Order. The deadline will change from January 15, 1998, to February 26, 1998. Other terms and conditions in the Second Report and Order adopted last year -- including the March 31, 1998, payment resumption date -- remain unchanged. The C-Block reauction will begin on September 29, 1998.

The Commission stated that moving the election date will serve the public interest by permitting licensees to submit their election after final disposition of arguments raised on reconsideration. The Commission has received 35 petitions seeking reconsideration of various aspects of the Order. The last filings relating to these petitions are due January 14, 1998. The Commission stated that the change in the election date should not be interpreted as an indication that it plans to depart in any material way from the decisions set forth in the Second Report and Order.

Action by the Commission January 7, 1998, by Order (FCC 98- 2). Chairman Kennard, Commissioners Ness, Furchtgott-Roth, Powell and Tristani, with Commissioners Ness and Powell issuing separate statements.
