UPTON, NY - A rhythm and blues concert featuring musicians from the Riverhead area is scheduled at the U.S. Department of Energy’s Brookhaven National Laboratory on Saturday, October 18, at 8 p.m. in Berkner Hall. Sponsored by the BNL Music Club, the revue will feature the band Blues House as well as surviving members of The Moroccos. The concert is open to the public. All visitors to the Laboratory age 16 and over must bring a photo I.D.

Blues House is a local band led by BNL’s own George Bostick. Their set list contains mainly Chicago blues tunes from well-known artists like Muddy Waters, as well as some original songs written by Bostick. Scheduled to appear with Blues House is seasoned rhythm and blues master Sonny Henderson, the lead guitarist from the 1960s Riverhead-based band, The Moroccos. Bostick, who is a personal friend of Henderson, said, “I learned chops (guitar runs) from Sonny. He was an inspiration and a true mentor to me. It will be an honor to play guitar standing next to him.”

The Moroccos were cousins who started their career in the late 1950s by playing at school dances. Over the years Henderson and the band also played at many local venues including routine gigs at The Bluebird, one of the hottest clubs in Riverhead in the 1960s, Dave’s Diner, and the 5’s in Bridgehampton. Their early set list included the music of well-known musicians such as Chuck Berry, B.B. King, and Chubby Checker. Later, the group extended their play list to include songs by artists such as Otis Redding and James Brown.

Other distinguished guests expected to perform and jam at this revue include Ralph Boardman on sax and keyboard, Big Al Allen on sax, Waddie Bolling on drums, Melvin Robinson on guitar, and Curtis Highsmith and Dave Mann on vocals.

Tickets for the show are $15 in advance and $20 the day of the show. Tickets may be purchased through www.ticketweb.com or at the door. Advance ticket purchase is recommended. For more information call 631 344-3846.

The Laboratory is located on William Floyd Parkway (County Road 46), one-and-a-half miles north of Exit 68 of the Long Island Expressway.
